When Lance told me he wanted to accept a job in Arizona (in a desert!), I agreed on the condition that we purchase some land in Kansas. An anchor of sorts. A promise that we’d come home one day.
Of course, life happens. We moved. We started a family. We moved again. After 10 years in Arizona, we still didn’t have our Kansas anchor. I started to get antsy. Zillow became my near-constant companion.
Finally, after more than a year of casual looking and months of serious looking, we’ve bought an anchor. A BIG anchor.
At nearly 15 acres, the homestead is larger than we envisioned. But we both loved it the minute we saw it — virtually. Perhaps the scariest bit about all of this is we bought this property from a far and have yet to actually see it in person.
I have big hopes and dreams for our homestead — both as a home and as a lifestyle. I hope returning to country living helps us to be more active. To be healthier physically and mentally. I hope it helps our children appreciate the hard work that goes into everything we consume. I hope the space helps us heal from our pandemic isolation and stress. Most of all, I’m looking forward to being closer to family and lifelong friends.
The property and its surroundings have a lot of history, and I’m looking forward to learning it and sharing it as we work to turn this place into our little piece of heaven.
